Car of the year 1953
General Motors introduced the 1953 Corvette. The first production run consisted of 300 units, all were Polo White with a red interior and a black canvas top.The only two options were an AM radio for $145 and a heater at $91 for a total price of $3500. It had a straight 6 105hp engine with three sidedraft carbs that jacked it up to 150hp. Windows were plastic and popped out and stored in the trunk. Drag racing – With Wally Parks behind the wheel, the NHRA held its first official race in April on a section of the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds parking lot in Pomona, California.
